About

I'm an Oxford-based photographer with a passion for capturing families as they really are.

I work exclusively in black and white. This allows me to avoid visual distractions and focus on the true essence of someone's personality. I feel that portraiture is particularly suited to monochrome, as it gives it a timeless feel, free from the trends associated with colour.

I've spent many years of my adult life teaching visual arts subjects and currently run an after-school photography and animation club. So, being around young people is second nature to me. I love chatting to teenagers about their favourite bands just as much as clowning around with younger children!

Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. In my teens, I spent most of my pocket money buying and developing films. My parents bought me my first SLR camera for my 18th birthday and I 'went digital' 8 years later. I still love the look of my grandmother's antique cameras.

When I'm not taking photographs of families, my camera and I are busy making architectural abstracts. These images are all about contrast, texture, shadows and form. When I find a building or urban scene to photograph, I love the challenge of distilling the essence of what I see into its most simplistic and beautiful form. This in turn informs my portraiture work.
